Women in the Redwoods 2009
This was a very eventful experience. Of our 13 + years of dancing and performing, never in our wildest dreams did we imagine ourselves dancing in the woods, but we did! The Like Me’s invited us to do a small collaboration being featured in their 45 minute set, and it was truly a wonderful experience.
Women in the Redwoods was an acoustic event dedicated to women. It took place in La Honda, CA and they invited all sorts of acts from all around the bay area. The line up included Becky Hoots, Mica Lee Williams, Blue Serra, Kelly Barret, Lisa Kelly, Beatbeat Whisper, Dorothy Wood, Kate, Rupa, and of course The Like Me’s featuring yours truly 
The energy was live, the music was grand, and food was delish! It took place right in the patio/ backyard of Sullivan’s Restaurant, which is a mere pitstop along the the 84 hwy. We had to bust out on concrete, which is nothing we’ve never done before, however, we just didn’t prepare ourselves this time around. The space we performed in was probably about a 10×10 area, which is uber tiny compared to the space we rehearsed with. But nothing is ever impossible, so we made it work!
This is just the beginning of a wonderful collaboration with The Like Me’s. Our energies meshed so well together, that it’s a given we’ll work together again in the near future. On top of that, Helena, the bass player of the Like Me’s, actually performed with us (formerly B-Syde/ Fifty-1-Zero) back in 1997 at our VERY FIRST event. So, these ladies were no strangers to the Jane Doe clique. 12 years later, we’re back on stage with each other, except she’s on bass
Much love to The Like Me’s for giving us this opportunity to work with a live band. It has always been a dream to do something like what we had just accomplished. So Thank You!!! Much love to Ming’s Professor for gettin them in the Line Up, to all the supporters that came all the way out in the woods to watch the “Wood-wide” premier of the “Does Jane Doe Like Me?” collab ~ mucho grazi!
